2 Minutes of the last meeting
Minutes from the previous meeting were agreed.
3 Matters Arising
Shared Space 3 is being put together with contributions possibly from Ophelia Byrne, Mary Delargy, Neil Jarman, Robin Wilson, Katy Radford, Pete Shirlow and Roger O’Sullivan.
Frances McCandless suggested that Nick Acheson could be approached for the next one to do something on the voluntary and community sector.
Tony Carson has also written about Integrated Education in terms of economics.
A concept paper is to be produced by Ray Mullan and Maureen Mackin for ‘Gig n the Park’ for next meeting in December.
4 Media Grant Scheme
My Day advertisement has been sent to the Film Commission and also has to be sent to Council to be ratified. The Committee said that a more joined up approach tying in with the NIPPA TV Campaign and Sesame Street should be thought about.
Teachers should also be trained to use the resources available including IT. Next year’s grant could maybe be used for this purpose. Europe or IFI could also help to fund this.
5 Publications Grant Scheme
A list of funded publications was presented to the Committee, including new applications for consideration
Fortnight – have two supplements which are issued free with the magazine which are being funded by the grant scheme but these have not been produced yet.
Ulster Place Names is under consideration and has a new foreword.
Community Foundation is producing a new Handbook on Community Relations which is being written by Chris O’Halloran.
Public Achievement is producing a booklet on International Youth Work and Michael Doherty is re-submitting his book on Mediation for Beginners – these applications have yet to be received.
The Committee agreed that CRC should make a formal call to groups to fund good practice on community relations. EU and Core Funded groups are to get invitations to apply to this scheme for good practice guides, this will also be advertised on the website.
A Polish magazine (Glosik) may be funded partially as there are articles on political parties here in Northern Ireland and also racism in football.
6 Media Champions
Ray Mullan produced a list of possible champions for Shared Future. Additions to this list were requested and the Committee offered a number.
It was also suggested that more people from the business community should be brought on board.
The idea behind media champions is that they promote a shared future not necessarily CRC.
Frances McCandless suggested some celebrities should be brought on board also which would help give a Shared Future an all round higher profile.
A satirical type magazine that is more humorous and ‘edgy’, such as the now defunct Portadown News, could be added to the website.
7 Date of Next Meeting
