Ards Council engages with local schools in a number of Good Relations initiatives. A Flags and Emblems seminar is being offered to all seven post primary schools in the Borough, and it is hoped that a number will participate in this during Community Relations Week.

Launch of re-imaged mural

The Council has secured funding to re-image murals with Loyalist images and symbols through the Arts Council’s Re-imaging Communities Fund. It is hoped to launch a new mural to replace the existing one in Queen’s Square, Newtownards, during Community Relations Week.

‘Ship of the People’ tells how in 1739 one hundred Gaelic-speaking Scottish islanders were kidnapped and held in Donaghadee prior to transportation to America as slaves. Their dramatic escape and the scandal which resulted will be debated by Skye historian Cailean Maclean and local historian Harry Allen.
